Protection Against Extreme Cold

Written by W. L. Gore & Associates

SHOT Show 2018 in Las Vegas promises many things, including the latest state-of the-art gear designed by some of the major brands in the tactical and outdoor industry. This year that category includes the new Arc’teryx LEAF Cold WX SVX Parka and Bib ensemble, engineered for missions in the Arctic.

According to a new review in Soldier Systems, the Cold WX SVX has been in development for several years and is designed for “a different class of athlete, the military elite.” It’s lightweight compared to other arctic outerwear, provides enhanced mobility, yet is very, very, very, very warm.

“We are excited to work closely with Arc’teryx to leverage our portfolio of protective fabric solutions for their cutting-edge outerwear products,” says Tom Dykes, Application Engineer at Gore. “The combination of Gore fabrics used in the Cold WX and Parka SVX will provide a broad level of protection for military and tactical personnel who encounter harsh weather conditions. The design and technical fabrics offer a distinctive advantage so users can remain warm and comfortable during their mission.”

The Arc’teryx LEAF Cold WX SVX Parka and Bib is made from Allied 850fp Grey Goose Down packed into box-pleated baffles and has a shell that combines GORE® WINDSTOPPER® and GORE-TEX 3L 30d plain weave fabrics. It was developed to provide enhanced, extreme cold weather protection for military and law enforcement personnel operating in harsh settings and is fully windproof.

As Solider Systems says, “Quite frankly, it’s amazing.”

You can see for yourself at SHOT Show 2018, Jan. 23-26 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Arc’teryx Booth 10526.
